The program in this room focuses on development and the individual needs of each child. Individual program plans are designed to meet the needs of each child. There are many opportunities for the children to explore their surroundings and discover new things each day. We provide a safe environment for them to grow and learn in. The nursery is breastfeeding friendly and daily routines are maintained according to the child’s needs. This room is for ages 3 months to 18 months. The ratio is 1:4.
This room is for children starting at ages 18 months. The children are encouraged to explore their environment and are introduced to a more structured daily routine. The ratio in this age group is 1:6.
Toddlers. Age appropriate activities are offered on a daily basis, as well as, music and movement activities. The children are encouraged to start developing self help skills. The ratio in this room is 1:6.
Toddlers/Younger Preschoolers. The program in this room is designed to provide a fun, educational experience through child-centered activities. These children are developing their social awareness as individuals. They participate in regular outings such as field trips, visits to the museum, bowling and swimming. The ratio is 1:7
The Busy Bee children are between the ages of 3-4 years old. These children participate in child-centered learning and enjoy using the science and exploratory materials. Children are encouraged to participate in school readiness activities such as ABC’s, numbers, colour recognition, and printing their name. Field trips are a regular part of their curriculum, including interaction with local senior citizens. The ratio is 1:8.
This classroom is for ages 4 thru 10 years old. There is a large, comfy area for reading and relaxing. There are planned daily craft activities and materials to explore freely. There is daily outdoor play and a nutritional snack after school. The children participate in many outings, including bowling, swimming, library, museum, the park and programs with the local seniors. There are many activity centres for the children to play in and use their creativity. The ratio is 1:15.
Preschoolers (4-5 years). These children participate in child-centered learning and enjoy using the science and exploratory materials. Children are encouraged to participate in school readiness activities such as ABC’s, numbers, colour recognition, and printing their name. Field trips are a regular part of their curriculum, including interaction with local senior citizens. The ratio is 1:8.
There is a full time cook with many years of experience. We have a 6 week menu that meets the Canada’s Food Guide and the Department of Health’s and the Department of Early Childhood and Early Learning’s approval. All meals and snacks are prepared on site. Accommodations may be made for food allergies and we strive to be a nut free facility.
Our centre has a gym area for days when we can not get outside. Teachers plan structured gross motor activities and children are permitted to use the variety of equipment on site.

We have a huge playground with a separate play area for infants and toddlers who are under 18 months. The larger play area is used by all rooms twice daily. We have a large recycled rubber play surface that provides improved accessibility for children of all mobility levels. The children look after a vegetable garden during the summer months. Also, during the summer months, we have space for water play, wading pools, and sprinkler fun!!

Bye the Sea Nursery School operates within the Lunenburg Daycare Centre. It is a 21/2 hour program that is from 8:30 am until 12:00 pm. There are two classes. The Tuesday and Thursday morning program is designed for 21/2 -3 year old’s and the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning program is designed for 4-5 year olds. This program provides children with a variety of activities and materials for social and cognitive growth. The children are also encouraged to participate in school readiness activities. This program has been in operation since September 1993.
